As a nursing leader, you want to become a change agent in your department. Based on staff input of workplace operation issues, your own preferred leadership theory, and the influences of your workplace elements, . Select and describe a proposed change you would like to implement in your workplace. This change should be something that is realistic and relevant to your workplace now and has not occurred already. Some examples for change to consider are the following (this list is not all-inclusive, and you may need to consult with your instructor regarding your own ideas for change in your workplace): .Change to bedside reporting .Change to hourly rounding .Change from management staff scheduling to staff self-scheduling .Change from call-off staff during low census to cross-training and floating . .Change in narcotic reconciliation procedures .Change in medication administration process to reduce errors .Change in how call lights are handled .Change in how assistive personnel are utilized .Change in how staff meetings are conducted .Change in supplies ordered .Change in unit admission procedures .Change in a particular policy, such as how vacations are scheduled, the implementation of a suggestion box, etc. .Write a paper of 8 pages, excluding the title page and references that does the following: .Describes the steps for successful implementation of the proposed change in detail .Describes how your proposed change is linked to a national quality of safety indicator for The Joint Commission (TJC), the National Quality Forum (NQF), the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), or Healthy People 2020 .Describes the background of the organization where the change is to occur .Include an introductory paragraph including the sentence, “The purpose of this paper is to…” .Include the background of your organization as previously written-up, but modified to incorporate instructor feedback into this new edition of the information. .Incorporate the steps in Havelock’s six phases of planned change. .Include specific examples of your identified change for each of the six phases of planned change according to Havelock. .The required headings are: Background .Leadership Theory of Organization Organizational Structure .Meeting the Mission .Values in Action .Proposed Change Description and .Rationale .Havelock’s Steps for Change .Building Relationships .Diagnosing the Problem .Resources .Choosing the Solution .Gaining Acceptance .
