Four steps to complete the assessment: 1. Choose a topic: you must complete your review of literature on one of the set topics. • Homophobia in football • Commercialisation of the Olympic Games • Media coverage of sports for people with disability 2. Search for the literature: you should identify academic literature on the chosen topic. At least 6 pieces of relevant academic literature must be identified and reviewed and among them there must be at least 2 journal articles. 3. Review the literature: You should first read the selected literature to develop your understanding of the chosen topic and take notes of the key points made in the literature. After you have read all the selected literature, you should identify some key issues related to the chosen topic which are discussed in the literature. 4. Write up your review of literature: you should then write up a review of literature of 1,200 words. In this review, you should organise the reviewed literature around the key issues that you have identified. Structure of your review of literature: 1. Introduction: in this first section, you should explain on what topic you will review literature and how this review will be developed. 2. Review of the literature: in the main section, you should organise and review the literature around the key issues identified. 3. Conclusion: in this final section, you should summarise the key points made in the review section. 4. References: You must provide a reference list including all the literature cited in the main text. Referencing: You must properly reference in the UoB Harvard Style. On completion of this unit you should be able to: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a chosen area of sport and the demands of higher education study. Demonstrate a range of skills including reviewing literature, referencing and academic writing.
