Historical Drama: Hidden Figures film response

I was struck not only by the story but also by the talent of the director in telling it. The space race is always an exciting backdrop; and the story of people working toward equality against unfair barriers was intertwined with the larger story in a masterful way. As moviegoers, we are often captivated by true stories. Changes are inevitably made to accommodate the film medium, but a sense of honoring the past in fact as well as in mood is of vital importance to the directors who seek to present the past to contemporary audiences The question for this film concerns an important aspect of historical films — namely that they present the past from the viewpoint of the present day. In other words, these films not only reveal the past, they also comment on the present. Why is this particular story being told now? The question for this film has two parts: (1) what is the message of the film as a historic presentation of this group of women, and why does it matter? (2) Why do you think this particular story is being told now? General Instructions for Film Responses Please read these instructions carefully: For each Film Response, answer ONE question about ONE film in the “Films and Questions” folder. 1) Each Film Response must be a minimum of 600 words. You may go over that minimum, but no Response even one word under the minimum will be accepted. Please include the word count in your heading (see #3). 2) I’m grading entirely on content, not mechanics (grammar, spelling, etc.); but a Response will lose points if it contains sentences that are unclear due to errors. And please do remember to italicize film titles. 3) At the left top of the first page put this information: Your Name HUM 1020 Film Response 1 How Viewed and on What date (e.g. DVD/Netflix/Theater Viewed 1/30/2017) Date Submitted and Word Count
